'Tis the Season!

What a busy, but fun couple of weeks we have had! First of all, I would like to thank all of the wonderful families that attended conferences. I really enjoyed getting to visit with you and getting to share your child's growth so far in kindergarten. It was evident how much you cared about your child in your presence at the conference, your questions, and your willingness to begin taking home book bags and other resources. It's comforting knowing that we are in this together.
The kindergartners are in the holiday spirit! You will see from the pictures and video below, that the kids are excited for the holidays coming up. It's been fun to be a part of it, as it is one of my favorite times of the year, too. They definitely know the way to my heart.
You'll find in the pictures that we have been working on addition number sentences and the meaning of the + and = symbols. The kids are really starting to get the hang of it! We are also practicing rolling two dice and adding them together as we practice writing the number that they equal. You will also find pictures from the winter concert (the ones with the funny faces!).
I also wanted to give you some information for the upcoming week, as it is the last week before winter break. On Thursday, we will be having a Polar Express day, where we will watch the movie, do Polar Express themed math and reading activities, and drink hot chocolate! I cannot wait! We invite all of the kindergartners to wear their pajamas and bring a blanket and/or stuffed animal on that day. Please keep in mind that weather permitting, the kids will need appropriate recess gear and shoes. Also, in case of a school delay, we will do Polar Express day on Friday (the same day as our winter party). Have a great week!

You Can't Catch Me!

Check out our new class book! After spending a week reading about and doing Gingerbread activities, we decided to create our own book. Look and see what your child decided to run away from.

Also, make sure to check the kindergarten wiki for other great resources to help your child practice his/her reading and math skills. You can find it on the home page of my blog to the right of my new posts. It's right beneath the Scholastic link. Enjoy!

Thanksgiving is Almost Here!

Hi Everyone!
I cannot believe that Thanksgiving is almost here! We will be doing some fun reading, writing, and math activities that are turkey related these next couple of weeks. Speaking, of Thanksgiving, I am thankful that I finally had some time to get a decent blog post up for all of you. In this post, you will find many pictures of the kids from our Fall party, our visit from Critters and Company, Veterans Day, and 50s Day. We have had so much fun these past couple of weeks, and I am glad that I captured some of the moments on my camera.

We had an awesome time at our fall party. We are really lucky to have some amazing room moms that helped organize and make it a fun afternoon for us! We got to create candy corn wreaths, decorate cookies to look like witches hats, and do some pumpkin bowling. Check out the pictures below.

Critters and Company came to teach us about character skills through animals. The main message of this year's program was using "gentle words" with others. We refer to that in our classroom as "filling buckets." I'm sure you have heard the kids use that phrase at home.

We had a great Veterans Day program this year with many special visitors that included actual veterans and Dr. Funk. This year, we put pictures of family members that were veterans for the entire school to see. It was great seeing how the kids responded to seeing people that they knew.

We had so much fun on 50s Day! We did "50s" things all day as we danced, sang, practiced our letter names and sounds, and even math. The kids especially loved the dance routines and brain breaks to the 50s music. Check out the kids doing the twist!

Also, it is nearing the end of the first trimester of school.  So it is time to think about ordering snack cart and/or milk for the second trimester of school.  If you are interested in participating in the program, the new trimester will start on December 2nd.  If your child currently gets milk or snack cart and you do not renew for the second trimester, they will stop receiving them on December 2nd.  The food service department is asking that you send in payment by November 21st so that they have time to get them processed and added to the lists.  If you send it in late, you can still sign up, but they may not have it processed and they might not be added to the lists until after the start date.
If you choose not to participate in milk or snack cart, you are still welcome to send snacks daily or to send a supply for them to keep in their lockers.
