The Polar Plunge and Dress-Up for Reading Week!

I hope you all had a restful and relaxing weekend! It sure was nice having a surprise three-day weekend. I wanted to show you some pictures of the Polar Plunge that I participated in and that many of you came to watch and support. It sure was a cold swim! If you look closely, you can see some little kindergarteners to the left of where we jumped! It was fun hearing them chant, "Miss Miller! Miss Miller!"

Here is a picture of my sister, Erin, and me. She jumped with some high school teachers.

My grandma and older sister, Jenna, even came to support us!

I wanted to remind all of you that this next week is dress-up week for I Love to Read month.

Sweet Things are Happening in Room 206!

Valentine's Day has come and gone in Room 206. We had so much fun throughout all the days leading up to our classroom party, and we captured so many fun memories so you could see them, too.

We had an actual author come to our school to talk to us about her books that she has written and to remind us of a very important thing: We are all authors! Every day we write in kindergarten; it can be something as small as our name to something as big as a story with an illustration. The most important thing is to celebrate our success as authors and illustrators! Here are some pictures of the author, Mary Bleckwehl. We loved being able to listen to her read her very own story!

We incorporated the Valentine's theme throughout our week leading up to our classroom Valentine-opening party. We read books about Valentine's Day, made a class book (which you can find on the wiki), did new reading and math center choices with the Valentine's theme, and did some math activities to incorporate the theme as well. That's a lot of Valentine's!

We even got to go to a fancy lunch in our very own cafeteria for Valentine's Day. Before going to lunch that day we learned about etiquette and proper table manners to use in the lunchroom and whenever we eat, no matter where we are. We had some lovely ladies and gentlemen in our classroom. Take a look at these fancy kids!

We raced to 50 with candy hearts to practice reading our numbers.

We also played Valentine's Number Squeeze to help us recognize which numbers are larger and smaller and to help us sequence them.

We also opened our Valentine's...what a sugary, sweet day!
