New Beginnings

Hi everyone and welcome to my blog! I'm excited for you to see all that we have done the past couple of days. It has been so much fun getting to know these 20 wonderful kindergartners in room 206. Personalities are starting to come out, friendships are being made, and our classroom family is starting to form. Throughout the year, I will be putting new posts on the blog about our classroom, reminders, and pictures that I have taken of the kids. Through pictures in this post, you will find some of the fun things that we have learned and practiced so far in kindergarten.

We practiced our kindergarten math skills of counting and one-to-one correspondence as we did our apple story mat in math. We also practiced using dice as a math manipulative.

This week we learned how to "write the room" during Writing with Tools. Our job is to write the words that we see posted throughout the room using our best handwriting and finger spaces. We don't even have to know the words, and we can still practice writing our letters! We even get to use pens!

In math, we practiced safe ways to use scissors as we learned about four of the shapes kindergartners need to know.

This probably isn't news to you, but we LOVE recess! It's a great way for our brains to get a break in the morning, and it gets us ready for the rest of our day.

One of the choices during choice time is puzzles. We learned how to take care of them and work kindly with partners as we picked a puzzle to put together with a friend.

We did such a great job lining up to get ready for the hallway that I just had to take a picture!

Here we are practicing the correct way to use crayons as we colored our names.

Another choice during choice time is construction, and one of the construction options is unifix cubes (which we can also use during math when we make patterns). The kids loved making cool creations to share with their friends.

     Some reminders for you:
  • If you would like, you can send up to 5 pictures of things/people/places that are important to your child to put on our door. It's a daily reminder that we are all in this together when it comes to these kids' learning and success at school.
  • Please make sure that your child's folder comes back to school every day empty. It is the best way for us to communicate with one another, and it builds responsibility for the kids.
  • Scholastic Book Orders are due by September 16th. The book orders were sent home last week. Feel free to take a look and take advantage of those great deals.
